Spain’s Alexia Putellas won her second consecutive Ballon d’Or

The Spanish Alexia Putellasof FC Barcelona, won the women’s Ballon d’Or this Monday for the second year in a rowor, so it becomes the first player to repeat in the award created in 2018.

Putellas, winner of the Spanish league and finalist in the Champions League, in which she was declared the best player, beat rivals like her compatriot Aitana BonmatĂ­ and her teammates at Barcelona Fridolina Rolfo (Sweden) and Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria), the French Wendie Renard, winner of the Champions with Lyon, the English Beth Mead or the German Alexandra Popp.

The 28-year-old soccer player from Mollet del Vallés won the last two editions. In 2018 the Norwegian from Lyon Ada Hegerberg won, the following year the American from Reing FC Megan Ripione and in 2020 the prize was not awarded due to the pandemic.

“I’m very happy to be here, very happy, the truth is that when we managed to win the first one a year ago, I decided to try to improve, to put it at the service of the team and to see myself rewarded in this way makes me proud”, said Putellas after receive the award from Ukrainian star Andrey Shevchenko, winner of the trophy in 2004.
