Microsoft: Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence

The year 2022 has marked a before and after in the evolution of these technologies, so Microsoft recaps some of the big milestones and trends shaping the future.

systems artificial intelligence (AI) Powered by great language models, they are transforming the way people work and create. From generating lines of code for software developers to sketches for graphic designers.

The year 2022 has marked a before and after in the evolution of these technologies, so Microsoft recaps some of the big milestones and trends shaping the future.

According to Kevin Scott, the firm’s chief technology officer, the Artificial intelligence works on three fundamental points:

  • Advances in large models of Artificial intelligence and generative Artificial Intelligence will continue to drive productivity, creativity and satisfaction.
  • This technology will enable scientific breakthroughs and help the world solve some of its biggest challenges.

And the Executive adds: “At the beginning of 2022, I think that almost everyone in Artificial intelligence I was anticipating some really impressive things, now that we are almost done with the year, and even with those high expectations (…) It is amazing to look back and see the magnitude of the innovation that we saw. The things that researchers and others have done to advance the state of the art are light years away from what we thought possible even a few years ago in AI models.”

Key releases, such as GitHub Copilot, a language model-based system that converts natural language prompts into code, positively impact developer productivity. They establish new reference standards regarding the use of these solutions.

Another example is generative image models like DALL∙E 2, a system that, while it doesn’t turn everyday people into professional artists, gives many people a visual vocabulary they didn’t have before.

However, it is in research projects where we can observe a greater degree of maturity of the Artificial intelligence.

Unlocking new levels of performance to solve complex problems. A notable case is the study of protein folding.

A work carried out by the David Baker laboratory of the University of Washington and the Institute for Protein Design, where these technologies serve as a multiplier in science and medicine.

Against this background, 2023 appears to be a promising year for the Artificial Intelligence community.

In the future, it is expected that the Artificial intelligence is everywhere, applied in the design of new molecules to create medicines.

Used to make manufacturing “recipes” from 3D models or as a constant assistant for writing and editing.

“This is the co-pilot’s dream for everything: you’d have a co-pilot who could sit next to you while you do any kind of cognitive work, helping you not only get more done, but enhance your creativity in new and exciting ways.” Scott added.

As Artificial Intelligence solutions start to become a regular part of people’s lives, they are expected to enhance human abilities.

A study of Microsoftfocused on the adoption of automation strategies for developers, found that the use of low-code tools had a positive impact of more than 80% on job satisfaction.

The general workload and the morale of the users, something that is expected to be replicated in other areas as the adoption of AI in business environments accelerates.

To date, most of its benefits are spread over a thousand different things in which it is impossible to fully appreciate its advantages.

For example, during a Teams video callin the system there is a series of parameters learned by an algorithm to optimize the transmission and guarantee an effective communication.

Behind the app are more than a dozen machine learning systems that support this interactive experience.

Microsoft’s work lies precisely in this commitment to make AI an invisible ally.

Commitment to intuitive innovation, which allows users to enjoy experiences and companies to enhance their operations intelligently.
