“The risk of tension” on the electricity network this winter is “increased”, but remains “controllable thanks to a strong mobilization” in favor of energy savings, said Wednesday the manager of the electricity transmission network (RTE ). To help you avoid power cuts, you could use a new website.
Will France be able to get through the winter in terms of energy? The electricity network manager, RTE, detailed Wednesday morning its forecasts on the state of the network for the coming months. Conclusion: the risk of cuts cannot be completely excluded.
A new tool, Ecowatt
Again, the word “sobriety” was spoken and repeated. RTE says it: “The risk of tension this winter will be greater than in the past”. It will impose a reduction of 1 to 5% in our electricity consumption if we go through a winter in the average of recent years, but the reduction could be 15% in the event of a very cold winter like in 2009-2010.
This risk will remain “controllable”, according to RTE if everyone mobilizes.
In front of the energy crisis, the government wants to promote the Ecowatt website. A tool that you can consult to know the risk of outage with precision because the voltage time slots will be indicated. The periods most at risk: between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the morning and between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the evening.
An Ecowatt red alert will mean that it is absolutely necessary to reduce its consumption under penalty of voltage drop and, as a last resort, load shedding.
Three effective gestures
RTE recalls the three most effective gestures: lowering the electric heating to 19 degrees, moderating the lighting at home and at work or even reducing the use of cooking appliances. And the manager has hammered it: France is not in danger of a “black out” this winter, that is to say a total loss of control of its electrical system.
